‘The Festival of
Democracy’
he Election Commission of India uses the phrase ‘festival of democracy’ to
Tdescribe elections. This festival is a cornerstone of democracy, allowing citizens to
choose their representatives and participate in government forming. High voter
turnout and a smoothly run election process are often seen as celebrating democratic
principles. The ‘festival of democracy’ concept emphasizes the positive aspects of democratic
systems. However, it is important to remember that democracies are imperfect and
require constant work. Issues like voter apathy, misinformation, and unequal access
