HISTORY THROUGH
The Heirloom
INDUSTRY
very heirloom tells a story. It is the
Ephysical, tangible reminder that
encompasses our lineage and legacy. It is the
history preserved within compact cases and
objects of material memory. It promotes
our material culture and verifies our cul-
tural identtiy. The act of indigenous things
acquiring worldwide acceptance, depic-
ting something that speaks louder than
words ever could, is the essence of heir-
looms; from utensils in the kitchen
worn with use, to a new bride’s intricate
jewellery to the last scrape of traditional
motif from the weaver by the window.
India has a rich history dating from
tens of thousands of years ago, to colo-
nialism, to the much-awaited freedom at
midnight.
From the Harappan civilization (3300
BC-1300 BC) we, as a society began
structuring our communtiy, mainly
focusing on architecture. Artifacts and
heirlooms of idols and religious figures
persist from this era even today.
