Onam Celebration and Magazine Release at Silver Hills Public School, Kozhikode

Silver Hills Public School, Kozhikode, marked the joyous occasion of Onam with grand celebrations spanning multiple days in September 2024. The festivities were conducted with great fervour on the 11th and 12th for the Kindergarten section and culminated on the 13th September with the main event.

The celebration began with  prayer, setting a spiritual tone for the day. Mr. KC Shaijal, the Staff Secretary, extended a warm welcome to everyone present. Fr. Augustine K Mathew CMI, Manager of Silver Hills Institutions, presided over the event. He wished happy and prosperity to everybody. Father Mathew Kalapurayil CMI, Principal of Silver Hills Public School, delivered the keynote address, in which he emphasised the unity and cultural significance that Onam brings to people from all walks of life.

A notable presence was the Chief Guest, Mr. Pradeep Balan, a well-known cinema actor and television comedy artist. His inspiring speech captured the essence of Onam and its place in Kerala's tradition. He charmed the audience by performing a beautiful medley, which further enriched the celebration. Another special guest, Ms. Veda Abhilash, a young and talented singer, graced the occasion by performing two melodious songs that captivated the audience.

The event also saw special felicitations from several dignitaries. These included Mr. Madhusoodanan K, PTA President; Dr. Jeslin V James, KG PTA President; Ms. Aditi Chatterjee, the school's Academic Coordinator; and Ms. Anna Tess Thimas, the Assistant Head Girl.

For the Kindergarten section, the Onam festivities on the 11th and 12th September were filled with joy and energy. Children, dressed in traditional attire, participated in a range of fun-filled activities that truly embodied the spirit of the festival.

A special highlight of the Onam celebration was the grand Onam Sadya, a traditional feast that was lavishly served to the entire school community. The Sadya allowed everyone—students, staff, parents and guests—to come together in the true spirit of Onam, fostering a sense of unity and joy.

The event also featured an array of cultural and artistic programs. These included Onam-themed games, a vibrant Pookalam contest, the symbolic arrival of King Mahabali, tug-of-war competitions, and flash mob dances. These activities showcased the rich cultural heritage of Kerala while highlighting the talents of the students.

Another key event was the release of the school’s annual magazine, Cascade 2024. The magazine was officially unveiled by the Chief Guest, Mr. Pradeep Balan, with the editor, Mr. Vijith P, also present during the ceremony.

The celebrations were truly remarkable, filled with enthusiasm, excitement, and a deep sense of tradition. Students, staff, and parents actively participated, making the event an unforgettable and joyous occasion that beautifully reflected the spirit of Onam at Silver Hills Public School.
